It's late July, and the summer produce is coming in strong across nearly every store this week. The chicken prices especially caught my attention - Food Lion has drumsticks at $0.79/lb and wings at $0.99/lb, which is about as low as you'll see those go all year.

This Week's Best Deals

Food Lion Chicken Drumsticks at $0.79/lb. I don't know when the last time was that I saw drumsticks this cheap. Buy a big family pack, season them simply with whatever you have in the pantry, and roast them at 400 degrees until the skin crisps up. They freeze well too, so pick up extras if the budget allows.

Meijer Whole Pork Shoulder Butt Roast (Bone-In) at $1.79/lb. A pork shoulder at this price is a genuine find, especially heading into the weekend. Low and slow in the oven or a slow cooker, and you've got pulled pork that will feed a crowd. It also makes the house smell wonderful.

Food City Whole Boneless Pork Loin at $1.29/lb (with digital coupon). If you're near a Food City, this is worth downloading the app for. A whole boneless pork loin cuts easily into chops, roasts, or medallions. Slice it up before you freeze it and you'll have easy weeknight meals for weeks.

Giant Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts at $1.99/lb (with digital coupon). Family size packages at under two dollars a pound for chicken breast is a deal worth stocking up on. The digital coupon is required, so make sure you clip it before you shop.

Piggly Wiggly Fryer Leg Quarters at $0.69/lb (10 lb. bag). Sixty-nine cents a pound is hard to argue with. Leg quarters braise beautifully, they hold up to bold seasonings, and a ten-pound bag gives you plenty of options for the week ahead.

Quick Breakfast and Lunch Ideas

ALDI Breakfast Sandwiches. ALDI has their Breakfast Best Biscuit or Muffin Egg Sandwiches at $4.99 for 17.2 to 18 oz., which works out to a reasonable price per sandwich for a busy morning. Keep a box in the freezer for the days when nobody has time to cook.

Kroger Milk and Giant Blueberries with English Muffins. Kroger has half-gallon milk at $1.59 (with digital coupon), Giant has blueberries at $1.99 a pint (with digital coupon), and ALDI has their plain English muffins at $1.59. Toast the muffins, pour a cold glass of milk, and put out a bowl of blueberries. That's a real breakfast for not much money at all.

Publix Italian Half Sub at $3.99. This is a deli lunch that's genuinely worth mentioning. Publix makes these fresh, you choose your toppings and roll, and at that price it's a reasonable midday meal without any cooking required.

There's a lot of good buying to do this week, particularly if you're willing to stock the freezer with meat while the prices are favorable. Head over to the full meal plans on MyMenuPlans.com to see how we've built out complete menus around these sales. We do the flyer-reading so you don't have to, and I think you'll find some meals worth looking forward to this week.
