BUDGET RATIONALE
Why these meals: This week's plan builds on Meijer's meat sales, with a different centerpiece each night: chicken thighs on Monday, pork loin chops on Tuesday, a pork shoulder roast on Wednesday, sausage hash on Thursday, and spareribs on Friday. Pork shows up three times (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday), but as chops, a slow roast and ribs, so the dinners should feel quite different. One $1.99 bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's can cover the BBQ nights on Monday and Friday, and the two bags of baby-cut carrots are just $0.78 together for Monday and Wednesday. Since the meals rely on simple meats, vegetables and rice, the only things to check for dairy are the labels on the BBQ sauce and the sausage. Also, start the Wednesday roast and the Friday ribs early in the day, because both need a couple of hours in the oven.

Meal: Slow-Roasted Pulled-Style Pork Shoulder with Baby-Cut Carrots
Description: Bone-in pork shoulder butt roast is seasoned and roasted low and slow until tender enough to shred, with carrots in the pan juices. Serve it over the remaining roasted potatoes.
